Abstract

India is always confronting growing problem with food productivity combined with its increasing population. India has the highest fluctuations in food inflation of any major Asian economy. Apart from persistent food inflation, policymakers face multiple problems on the agricultural front. The Indian planners, right from the beginning, realised the need to attain self- sufficiency in food grains as one of the important goals in planning. Even though self- sufficiency has been achieved food inflation is still a big problem for the Government. The objective of the study is to identify the causes of food inflation in India since the global crises. The study also provides suggestions to stabilize the food prices and to meet the increasing food demand in future.
