As we enter the new millennium, a much better understanding has emerged of the important and unique role of livestock as a medium for human development. Ironically, nutrition remains the key factor to animal production across major regions of the world. The way livestock are fed, and milk, meat, eggs, wool and hides is produced will be a crucial determinant in the future health and sustainability of the planet. The application of technological innovations capable of drastically modifying the livestock feeding systems should be carefully monitored. In this context, dissemination of scientific and technical information with greater efficiency is needed to turn it into reliable applications in different production systems. Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology as a new journal endeavours to bring together important research results and academic manuscripts:

  • to focus on and advance the science of animal nutrition and feed technology

  • to discuss the importance of livestock feeding systems in both the traditional and new capital intensive operations, and

  • to provide a new leading source of reference and knowledge on nutrition of all classes of animals (ruminants, non-ruminants including Pisces), their products, feed proccesing technology and socio-economics.

Thus, Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology will aim to contribute to and stimulate the full use of available feed stuffs for a realistic potential level of production with profitability and to provide a medium of publication for scientists and scholars in the field. A strong peer-review process and an efficient handling of papers will signify the journal. The suitability of a manuscript for publication will be determined on the basis of originality, clarity of presentation, sound work and individual merit.

The scope of Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology will include basic and applied papers of original research, comprehensive upto date reviews and technical short notes in the areas of nutrition, feed processing, microbiology, socio-economics of feeding systems and management of all classes of animals. These objectives are reflected in the contents of this first issue.

The development of this new journal is the result of strong countrywide interest and efforts by many scientists, industrial leaders and members of Animal Nutrition Association over the last several years. The Editors, the Editorial Advisory Board and the peer reviewers have a great responsibility towards shaping the quality and growth of this journal. The Chief Editor is deeply grateful to these persons for the work they have already done. Ultimately, the contents and extent of this journal will be determined by what the subscribers want and need. It is the hope of the sponsoring Animal Nutrition Association and the Editors, that this first issue of Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology meets the expectations of the subscribers and contributors and that future issues will earn their growing respect and patronage.
