Abstract

Twenty Four weaned large White Yorkshire pigs were divided into four experimental groups of 6 pips each (3 males and 3 females). Brewers spent grain (BSG) was included at graded levels of 10, 15 and 20 per cent of the control rations. Feed and water was offered ad lib. for a period of 130 days Average daily gain and efficiency of feed conversion of the pigs were depressed significantly (P< 0.01) when the level of BSG in the ration was raised beyond 15 per cent. Dressing percentage and carcass length were not affected by its inclusion upto 20 percent but loin eye (Longissimus dorsi) area and average back fat thickness decreased, while percent drift increased progressively with increasing levels of BSG. The weights of various organs were not affected, except for spleen weight which was significantly (P<0.05) more in pigs offered control ration as compared to those receiving other experimental diets.
