Abstract

Growth performance of Murrab buffalo calves fed partly Leucaena leucocrephala hay for a period of 100 days was studied. Experimental animals were fed concentrate mixture and wheat straw (T1); lucerne hay and oat hay (T2); and subabool and oat hay (T3). Total intake of dry matter in the respective groups was 4.35, 4.32 and 4.43 kg which was similar. Digestibility of DM and CF did not differ significantly amongst treatments. Average ruminal total nitrogen, urea-N, propionic and butyric acids were also similar between different treatments. Production of NH3-N was significantly (P<0.05) less in T3. Though daily body weight gains were similar yet feed : gain ratio in T3 group was very wide.
