Online published on 10 February, 2015. Abstract Reducing orthodontic treatment duration is an issue of importance, particularly for adults. Longer orthodontic treatment time has several disadvantages like higher predisposition to caries, gingival recession, and root resorption. This increases the demand to find the best method to increase tooth movement with stable outcome and least histological damage and pain. Several methods have been developed to increase the rate of tooth movement, which includes surgery-facilitated techniques, electromagnetic field, laser, vibration, electric current and use of drugs. Due to the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, further investigations should be done to determine the best method to accelerate tooth movement.
