Abstract

A study on the evaluation of susceptibility in groundnut genotypes to the bruchid Caryedon serratus (Olivier) was done at the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, SVPUA&T, Meerut during 2018 to 2019. Screening of groundnut pods was carried out in ten varieties and assessed based on the fecundity, adult emergence, developmental period, index of susceptibility, index of suitability, growth index, pod damage, weight loss of pods and survival of C. serratus. The evaluated genotypes were classified based on the index of susceptibility (IS) in five categories as given by Mensah (1986), and it was observed that Harithandra, K-1809 and K-1805 with IS of 0.08, 0.33 and 1.81, respectively were resistant, while K8-Bold (2.92), K-1621 (4.80) and Chitravathi (2.70) were moderately resistant; K7-Bold (6.29), K-1930 (5.10) and K-6 (5.56) were found to be moderately susceptible, while K-1715 with an IS of 8.69 was susceptible.
