Abstract

Background and Objectives

Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) was used in this study to propose a novel and simple method for identifying 20 elements in two plants.

Method

The preparation method involved microwave digestion, addition of 4 mL of 6 M HNO3 and 1 mL of 1 M H2O2, ultrasonic treatment at 25°C for three minutes, followed by filtration and dilution before exposure to ICP analysis. The limit of detection was reported to be < 15 ng.kg−1, and the relative standard deviation was < 7%. Based on the findings, the recovery percentage of all elements was 80–108%, and the linear correlation coefficient was reported to be 0.99.

Results

ICP-OES following microwave-assisted digestion, are appropriate methods for elemental analysis of the samples. After smashing the samples, they were homogenized using an agata mortar to prevent oil loss prior to digestion. The benefits of this method include low LOD, RSD, 80–108% recovery of all metals, and a linear correlation coefficient (R) of 0.999. The advantages of this method include short analysis time, cost-effective components, and high extraction efficiency, resulting in its great potential for routine metal assessment in Dorema aucheri and Suaeda maritima samples.

Conclusion

The proposed method in this study for measuring the elements had the following advantages: simultaneous analysis of 20 elements by high throughput method and ICP-OES; lower detection limit; high repeatability; time efficiency of sample analysis; and adequate recovery of elements in real samples.
