Online published on 27 November, 2019. Abstract Teeth serve the purpose of mastication and aesthetics. These are one of the hardest substances of the body and are preserved even after death. They are resistant to high temperatures and extreme conditions. The oral cavity features of no two individuals are the same. This forms the basis of forensic odontology. This review article shall be a short discussion of scope, situations, history, present global and Indian scenario of forensic odontology and few cases where dental evidence were presented by legal professionals in the court of law. Forensic odontologists should be trained, certified and should update their knowledge timely. The training and certification should have a universal standard so that dental evidence collected can be utilized in legal proceedings world-wide.
