Role of Workforce Performance in Global Competitivness of Developing Countries: The Case of International Companies in Ethiopia Lemma Mesfin (Ph.D.)a, Tesfahun Wushen (MBA)b aAssociate professor at International Leadership Institute, Ethiopia bManaging Director – Canal Aviation & Logistics, Ethiopia Abstract The study was designed with a general objective of studying the role of workforce performance on the global competitiveness of international companies operating in Ethiopia. The research was conducted in three organizations in Ethiopia. The research design is descriptive in its nature and qualitative and quantitative data was collected as a primary and secondary data resources. Questionnaires were distributed to the laborers in the organizations and interview was also conducted with the managers and other stakeholders to gain the management's view and make the data more comprehensive. The collected data was summarized and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The result then is presented in the form of tables followed by discussions for further interpretation on the findings. Salary takes the main share in being the number one influencer for the employees’ turnover intention. Thus, the researchers mainly recommended for the government and the organization to develop a retention strategy that mixes the financial and non-financial compensation practices as appropriate to be followed by a regular revision.
