Reproductive and Sexual Health Knowledge and Utilization of Services among Adolescents: A Review Based on Available Literature

Abstract

Introduction

Today adolescent's RSH is one of the essential health concern which focussed as global attention. Adolescents often lack basic reproductive health (RH) information, knowledge and access to health services for RH.

Objectives

To determine the knowledge on reproductive and sexual health and utilization of services among adolescents.

Method

A comprehensive systematic session of published literature and journal articles from Pub Med and EBSCOHOST databases was done that are focussing from 2010–2017. Search strategy specific to each databases was used.

Result

Out of seven articles, one research study finding is showing good knowledge on RH and services. One research study found that the female adolescents had moderate knowledge regarding RSH. Two research studies revealed that lack of knowledge about RSH. Three research studies found that there was poor utilization of RSH services.

Conclusion

This review concludes that there is a need for intensified effort to increase the knowledge on RSH and utilization of services by adolescents. Hence, multiple approaches are needed to reach and meet the diverse needs of the different age group of adolescents.
