Abstract Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is the major pro-inflammatory cytokine, which exerts multiple effects within the disease activity in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of IL-6 with some clinical parameters in JIA and RA disease Iraqi patients. A case-control study involved (86) patients with JIA and RA disease, who visited Merjan Teaching Hospital in Babylon. All patients and control had the same ethnic group (Arabic). The serum IL-6 level was measured by ELISA kit. Results The female gender was more frequent in rheumatoid arthritis. The percentage of uveitis was decreased (11.4%) in JIA compared with RA (25.5%). IL-6 serum level was significantly elevated (P≤0.05). There was significant decreasing in the mean of ESR in JIA patients (35.74 ± 15.28) in comparison with RA patients (68.78 ± 25.09). IL-6 assessment in both JIA and RA patients can be helpful in determining the activity of disease, and plays a significant role in its relationship with both rheumatoid disease (JIA and RA).
