Abstract Nowadays managing knowledge has become challenging task for management. The main objective of this research is to study the problems and difficulties in implementing knowledge management practices in private engineering colleges in and around Chennai. Although, knowledge management has been widely discussed by many academics and practisers, there is relatively little information only available on problems and difficulties faced by management in implementing knowledge management practices. The paper aimed at examining the problems and difficulties in implementing knowledge management practices related to demographical characters of employees in education sector. In this study questionnaire were issued out conveniently to professors in private engineering colleges in and around Chennai. Out of 150 copies of questionnaire administered, 132 were collected and analyzed. SPSS software was used to analyze and interpret the questionnaire.
