Abstract A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was applied to identify cows’ sheep's, goats’ and buffalo's milk and cheese's in Basra city by using specific primers targeting to identify the species of animals to detect the cheating in local and imported cheeses and in crude milk as a comparative point to detect accuracy of result come from amplified gene of cheeses. The present study aimed to develop a rapid PCR-based method for the detection of cows’, sheep's, goats’ and buffalo’ cheese. The current study revealed that there was no cheating in imported cheeses, whereas, reported some cheating in the local cheeses compared with the crude milk as a standard to limited the accuracy of result.
