Investigation of metronidazole induced liver injury during early pregnancy in rats: A histological and histopathological studies Haddao Kadhim M. College of Dentistry, University of Kerbala, Iraq Online published on 1 November, 2018. Abstract Drug induced liver injury may result from dose-dependent direct hepatotoxicity. Metronidazole drug was an oral synthetic antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent. This drug was a recommended treatment during pregnancy for bacterial vaginosis and infections with Trichomonas vaginalis. The objective of this work was to assess whether treatment with commercial metronidazole during the first semester of pregnancy, in rats was associated with major hepatic abnormalities, Pregnant females rats were treated orally by curative dose of Metronidazole tablets after confirm the onset of pregnancy, liver histopathology was studied. Histopathological findings of Metronidazole drug which induced liver injury are nonspecific really but can be valuable in narrowing the differential diagnoses.
