Abstract

Lactam antibiotics are important for the treatment of various infectious diseases in humans. Carbapenem is a drug that is often used to treat infections caused by multi-resistant gram-negative bacilli. The most important mechanism of carbapenem resistance in Enterobacteriaceae is the production of carbapenemase. This enzyme is involved in multidrug resistance strains as a source of nosocomial outbreaks.

This study aimed to find out the presence of bacterial-negative isolates that can produce carbapenemase at the Mamuju Regency General Hospital.

This is a descriptive observational study. The number of samples in this study were 19 wastesamples from several places in Mamuju Regency General Hospital. Testing was carried out in the molecular biology laboratory and immunology of the medical faculty of Hasanuddin University. Waste samples were carried out with gram staining test, biochemical test and sensitivity test for imipenem antibiotics and meropenem with disk diffusion method.

The results showed 13 gram-negative bacterial isolates in hospital waste, which was Klebsiellapneumoniaeis the dominant type of bacteria. There were 4 bacterial isolates that were thought to produce carbapenemase enzymes such as Klebsiellapneumoniae isolates 2 isolates, Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacteragglomerans.
