Abstract

Haemato-biochemical and ruminal fluid profile of fifteen (15) buffaloes showing rumen impaction were studied. Hematological alterations revealed neutrophilia and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Diseased buffaloes had significantly higher plasma aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, glucose, blood urea nitrogen, total protein, globulin and fibrinogen levels and significantly lower plasma calcium, sodium, potassium and chloride concentrations. The ruminal liquor of diseased buffaloes revealed characteristic physical, chemical and microbial changes and marked higher methylene blue reduction time and ammonia nitrogen levels.
