Abstract Semen was collected in eight untrained adult Mongrel dogs using digital manipulation technique and analyzed for colour, volume, individual motility and total sperm count. The colour of semen with all fractions together was white opalescent. The ejaculates were collected separately in three funnel shaped glass tubes. The pre-semen fraction was slightly clear in appearance with mean ± SE volume of 1.5± 0.5ml. The sperm rich fraction was distinctly milky in appearance with mean ± SE volume of 3.5± 0.5ml. The prostatic fraction was crystal clear fluid, ejaculated slowly over a prolonged period of time with mean ± SE volume of 4.5± 0.5ml. The mean ± SE of the semen volume (ml), individual motility and total sperm count were 8.53± 1.56, 76.67 ± 3.34 and 16 x106/ml respectively.
