Abstract

The present study was aimed to investigate the occurrence of demodicosis in clinically suspected dogs and its management. A total of 47 suspected dogs with varying skin lesions were included in the study. The suspected skin scrapping samples were collected from all dogs (n=47) for detection of etiological agent. The present study was also undertaken to evaluate the clinical efficacy of herbal immunomodulators along with Ivermectin/Amitraz in treatment for canine demodicosis. Out of forty-seven, 11 dogs (23.4%) were found to be suffering from demodicosis (localized or generalized). Diagnosis of demodicosis in skin scrapings was done by direct and indirect microscopic examination. Amitraz application weekly and tablet Ivermectin in ascending dose rate from 50-400mcg/kg b.wt. for eight to ten weeks along with herbal immunomodulators syrup and multi-vitamin proven to be highly effective.
