Do we have choice? Immediate loading of dental implant–A Review Dr. Chadha Minni, Professor, Dr. Shukla Pradeep, Professor & Head, Dr. Grover Deepak, Post Graduate Student Department of Peridontics & Implantology, D.J College of Dental Sciences & Research, Modinagar. Abstract The concept of immediate implant loading has recently become popular due to less trauma, reduced overall treatment time, decreased patient's anxiety and discomfort, high patient acceptance and better function and esthetics. Nonetheless, research and understanding in this area are confusing and sometimes contradictory. Two stage surgical protocol was given by Branemark, but it has several pre-requisites like Countersinking the implant below crestal bone, Obtaining and maintaining the soft tissue covering over the implant for 3–6 month, maintaining a non-loaded implant environment for 3–6 months (1). The reasons for countersinking the implant below crestal bone are: To reduce and minimize the bacterial infection, To prevent the apical migration of oral epithelium along the body of implant and To reduce and minimize the risk of early implant loading during bone remodeling. A careful case selection, proper treatment plan, meticulous surgery and proper design of prosthesis are essential for optimal outcomes when this approach is adopted.
