Abstract

Sialoendoscopy is a new procedure, aiming to visualize the lumen of the salivary ducts and their pathologies. During the last 13 years, there has been a growing interest in the use of minimally invasive treatment techniques. Salivary gland endoscopes provide an accurate means of diagnosing and providing minimally invasive surgical treatment for salivary gland diseases. The reported attempts to visualize the ducts were conducted in the early 1990s. This technique can be performed in most cases as an ambulatory, outpatient procedure. The most frequent ductal pathology being sialolithiasis, interventional sialendoscopy aims to retrieve salivary stones following their fragmentation.
