Online published on 29 March, 2016. Abstract A field experiment was conducted at the Horticulture ExperimentalFarmof the AAU, Jorhatduring kharif, 2011 with 15 spine gourd germplasm of Assam. Theanalyses of variance revealed significant differences among the genotypes for all the characters under study. The genotypes significantly superior to their respective best check for different characters were GB 18–09/09 (560 cm) and GB 1803/09(540cm)for vinelength and GB18–03/09(71.42g)for single fruit weight. Check genotype SPG-04 was the earliest for days to 50 per cent flowering (62.67 days) and days to first fruit harvest (72 days). Genotype SPG-01 was significantlythehighest yielding (1369.89 g). It was followed byGB 18–08/09 (1322.00 g) and GB16–01/09 (1285.40 g) for fruit yield. Some of thepromising genotypes based on quality characters were SPG-10 for Protein and ascorbic acid content, GB 18–09/09 for calcium, SPG-02 for phosphorus and GB 18–05/09 and GB 18–10/09 for total soluble sugars. The fruits of different genotypes were round, oval, oblong and spindle shaped. Top Keywords Evaluation, characterization, spine gourd. Top |
