Abstract Coconut oil has been tested for its antibacterial action in its natural state and coconut oil that had been treated with enzymes, in a process similar to digestion. The oils were tested against strains of streptococcus bacteria, they found that enzyme-modified coconut oil strongly inhibited the growth of most strains of streptococcus bacteria-an acid producing bacterium that is major cause of tooth decay. Coconut tree is cultivated for multiple utilities and its all parts are used in various forms. The parts of its fruit like coconut kernel and tender coconut water have multiple medicinal properties such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antidermatophytic, antiparasitic, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, immunostimulant etc. Thus coconut palm is referred as “Kalpvriksha”. The health industry has always used natural products as an alternative, to conventional allopathic formulations for the treatment of various problems. The current review describes different facts and phenomenon related to the use of coconut in health and disease prevention.
