Concept of Gram Nyayalaya in India A Pragmatic Approach

Abstract

"Gram Panchayat" is suggested for the new model of justice dispensing forum. The Gram Nyayalaya would be a body for administration of justice, and a legislation for the same would squarely fall under Entry 11-A of the Concurrent List. The Indian Government has started gram Nyayalay in 2005 which fulfills the one of the dream of the Mahatma Gandhi. The Gram Nyayalayas were established for fulfilling the objective of justice at door of the villagers. In this paper the researcher tries to find out the functioning of Gram Nyayalayas which are established under ministry of justice of government of India. How they are functioning. What is present status of the Gram Nyayalaya? The researcher has taken the data for the last three years and concluded that Gram Nyayalayas are functioning better than the other civil courts. There are more chances of compromise and withdrawn of suits as environment in the Gram Nyayalayas are very cordial.
