Abstract Cloud computing (CC) is gaining popularity in many industries as well as in the libraries and this continues to be adopted in its various forms. This article describes the conceptual framework of CC with respect to its definition, characteristics, services and deployment models along with security issues and so on. It further explores that how libraries can be benefitted using these technologies. Many existing library-based operations and services that are already offered through cloud infrastructure have been discussed. Some of the risks and crucial security issues with respect to protection of data have been delved upon with measures to overcome them.
