Abstract The production of acid by bacteria in the dental plaque is one of the factors associated with Dental caries. There has been prolonged interest in the role of lactobacilli in the aetiology of the disease. Although it is regarded as responsible for progression of Dental caries its association with the disease is questioned and regarded as opportunistic colonizer.
