Abstract Pusa Surya (syn. Eldon) introduced from Brazil in the year 1981 at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi performed very well under Delhi conditions during the years 1987–2002. This variety had medium vigorous tree, high yield and good quality fruits of long shelf-life after harvesting at room temperatures (13.16 days) as well as low temperatures (15.25–20.0 days). Fruit was strongly attached to stalk and medium in weight (234.57g) and size (12.5 cm long, 10.0 cm wide). Ventral shoulder of fruit is slightly elevated with small curve and dorsal shoulder ending in a moderate curve. Beak is slight, sinus very shallow, apex sub-conical and basal portion slightly depressed at joint of stalk. Peel had attractive apricot yellow background with red colouration on portion of peel surface exposed to sun and it is thick with conspicuous lenticells over it. Pulp was abundant (72.3%), dark orange in colour, fibreless and sweet (T.S.S. 18.46%) with pleasant blend of sugar and acid (acidity 0.22%). Pusa Surya was released by Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in the year 2002 and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi in the year 2003 for commercial cultivation. The multi-location testing of this variety is undergoing at centers of All India Coordinated Research Project on Subtropical Fruits in varying agro-climates of India.
