Effect of sulphur fertilizer on chlorophyll content and activity of enzymes in leaves of mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern & Coss) at different stages of growth Singh Neeraj*, Abidi A B Department of Agricultural Biochemistry, ND University of Agriculture & Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad-224 229, India *Author for correspondence
Abstract Leaves collected at different growth stages from three varieties of Indian mustard over two continuous years were analyzed for chlorophyll content and nitrate reductase (NR), peroxidase (POX) and catalase (CAT) activity. Leaf chlorophyll content increased with increasing levels of sulphur and was highest at 60 days after sowing (DAS). Highest NR activity was recorded at 30 DAS when sulphur was applied @ of 40 Kg/ha. POX activity was highest at 90 DAS followed by 30 DAS. Maximum CAT activity was recorded at 60 DAS followed by 30 and 90 DAS. NR and POX activities were highest in Narendra Rai at most stages of plant growth while CAT activity was lowest in this variety. Top Key words Chlorophyll, enzyme activity, nitrate reductase, catalase, peroxidase. Top | | |
