Abstract

Tongue is a very active and extremely sensitive organ performing on a complex muscle background. It is often cited as the strongest muscle in the body, a claim that does not correspond to any conventional definition of strength. The knowledge of the effects of tongue's shape, size, position and movements plays a significant role in the success of prosthesis. Acting as an oral acrobat, it can easily displace even a well fitting denture, at the same time it can also manipulate very loose denture with the greatest of ease. Careful designing of prosthesis tend to overcome the threats posed by this strong muscular organ and aids in improving the retention and stability of dentures.
