Abstract Designing Aspects and Technical analysis of Gold-Coated Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) Biosensor based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) have been presented in this paper. The formulae for the designing of the PCF-based SPR sensor for optimised results have been discussed, in terms of the results of the wavelength sensitivity. Fundamental loss variation of the sensor for different gold layer thicknesses has been presented from the designer’s point of view. Some recent important studies on the flexibility in engineering holey structures and controlling the waveguiding properties in PCFs, which have enabled a wide variety of PCF-based plasmonic structures, have been discussed qualitatively in the concluding remarks. The paper is expected to be very useful for the designers and technologists engaged in Gold-Coated PCF Biosensor based on SPR for applications in Pollution Control.
