Therapeutic Attributes of Prunus cerasoides

Abstract

Plant has been used for healing purposes since ancient times. Its evidence is found in Ayurveda which explains the natural way of curing a variety of diseases. It utilises the plant and its derivatives to cure doshas or essential elements that form the human framework. Although, we are very well known about the common medicinal plants like neem, aloe vera, ashwagandha, tulsi, Chandan etc, but unfamiliar with the Padmak tree. In this list, one such tree is Prunus cerasoides or Padmak belonging to the family Rosaceae. It is rich in antioxidant. In Ayurveda, it is known by the name ‘Varnya herb’ or ‘Radiance enhancing herb’ responsible for brightening the skin. From its, fruit to seeds and bark to gums almost entire tree is utilised in making holistic medicine for several herbal preparations. Thus, one must be aware of its therapeutic properties to make the best use of this plant.
