Abstract Social Sector Development is one of the most rewarding investments available to promote national development. Education contributes to improving national and individual welfare through multiple pathways like helping people to become more productive and earn more, improving health, enriching lives through empowerment and giving better opportunities and thus greater equity through opportunity. Education helps in removal of poverty, class discrimination and gender bias etc. It promotes equality and justice in the society. Education is an important indicator of social development. Discrimination on the basis of caste and gender has been a major impediment in the healthy development of the Indian society. The infrastructure is in pathetic conditions. This study an attempt makes to find out the contribution of education in social sector development and various causes which create hindrance in the way of social sector development.
