Abstract Voting behaviour deals with attitude and voting choice, behaviour which means self assessment or personal consideration in selecting candidates of their choice. The general assumption on voting behaviour in the early phase has been that ‘Voting’ in a conscious and rational act in which elector makes his preferences. But today, empirical studies express doubts about the capacity of individual voters to make independent and rational voting preferences. For, it connotes today more than previous assumptions it also involves the analysis of individual psychological process, perception, emotion, motivation and their relation to political action as well as institutional patterns. Some scholar emphasis ‘voting behaviour’ on the impact of social and environmental factors of the individual choice. Thus the sociologists explain voting behaviour in terms of sociological variables such as class, ethnicity, religion as well as attitudes and orientations towards participation. Nature and attitude of an individual on what circumstances voter choices their respective in election is voting behaviour. Level of interest and environment of the voters may be different as everybody does not have the time, energy, resources and interest to make a direct and active participation. Thongju assembly constituency is highly politically conscious constituency where eminent politician of Manipur bought up.
