Morphological characterization and the effect of temperature and relative humidity on development of teak powdery mildew

Abstract

Samples of powdery mildew of teak collected from different areas of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh revealed the presence of anamorphs and teliomorphs. On the basis of both the anamorphic and teliomorphic characters the fungus inciting the disease was identified as Uncinula tectonae Salm. The study of the conidia revealed the presence of fibrosin bodies. Experiments were carried out to study the germination pattern of conidia under different environmental conditions. It was observed that the conidial germination was maximum at 25°C temperature and 100 per cent relative humidity.
