Abstract

Oil palm is one of the fast growing crops in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State and now it has become the topmost priority of the Central Goverment to meet edible oil demand of the Nation. The National Mission on Edible Oils and Oil Palm, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare has been promoting oil palm cultivation in the country. An attempt was made to survey and estimate cost of production of oil palm seedlings in a nursery period of 12 months in Andhra Pradesh. Survey was conducted by visiting 15 oil palm nurseries and collected information through personal interview by using questionnaire. All the components of oil palm nursery were quantified, described and estimated cost systematically. Cost was worked out for one lakh seedlings and cost of individual seedling separately for indigenous and imported seedlings. Percentage of genetically abnormal seedlings was about 15% both for indigenous and imported seedlings. The cost of one lakh indigenous seedlings was worked out as Rs.141,30,200 and Rs.194,78,200 for imported seedlings. The cost of individual indigenous seedling is about Rs.166 whereas imported seedling cost is Rs. 229.
