Abstract The lifetime prevalence of somatization disorder in the general population is estimated to be 0.2 percent to 2 percent in women and 0.2 percent in men. Women with somatization disorder out number men 5 to 20 times. This study was intended to assess the risk for hypochondriasis among nursing students. Descriptive survey approach was used. Whitely index scale was used to collect the data from 100 students by using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. It was observed that 40% may have hypochondriasis with the mean score of 30.22 and SD 10.05. A significant association was seen between boarding of the student and risk for hypochondriasis (χ2 =7.971, table value, df(2) =5.99 at p<0.05). The study concluded that there is a need to assess hypochondriasis, particularly in professionals such as nurses, doctors, IT professionals etc. Top Keywords Hypochondriasis; somatizationnursing students.
