Abstract Disorders of the temporomandibular joint include a wide variety of pathological alterations involving the joint apparatus, the most prevalent being the myofacial pain dysfunction syndrome. Diagnosis can be very perplexing and the management is multifaceted. Various approaches have been suggested in the management of this disorder, including patient education, heat and cold therapy, pharmacotherapy, biofeedback, jaw exercises and relaxation. This clinical report elucidates the prosthodontic management of a patient with myofacial pain dysfunction syndrome with a maxillary posterior bite plane.
