Unusual Anatomy of a Mandibular FirstMolar: An Endodontic Challenge Dr. Khatter Ramneek, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Singh Ripu Daman, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Bal C.S., Principal, Professor and Head Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Amritsar. Abstract This clinical article presents endodontic management of a mandibular first molar with 3 roots (radix entomolaris) and a Vertucci type IV canal configuration in radix entomolaris. The presence of type IV canal configuration in entomolaris has never been reported in literature. Root canal treatment may be performed in root canal systems that do not comply with the normal anatomic features described in standard textbooks. Hence it is considered important to be familiar with variation in tooth canal anatomy and must be taken into account in clinical and radiographic evaluation during endodontic treatment.
