Abstract The watersheds in the mountainous basin are highly sensitive to climate change. So, any erratic change in long term climatic pattern may ultimately influence cropping pattern and streamflow. Thus, detection of trends and magnitude of the hydro-climatic variables (temperature, rainfall, relative humidity and streamflow) are of prime importance. In the present study, the trend analysis has been performed by using parametric (linear regression) and non-parametric (Mann-Kendall test and Sen's estimator of the slope) methods on a seasonal and annual basis for the Ramganga basin. Annual and monsoon rainfall is falling significantly (at 95% confidence interval) at Lansdowne station, at the rate of -23.81 mm/year and -19.33 mm/year respectively. Analysis of discharge in the Marchulla sub-watershed indicates that there is a falling trend in annual, monsoon, post-monsoon and winter season discharge data although it is not significant at 95% confidence level.
