Abstract This study is related to “Comparative analysis of Non-Performing Assets in Public and Private Sector Banks” for a span of 15 years from 1997–98 to 2011–12. Twenty seven Public sector and 20 Private Sector Banks are selected for the study. Statistical tools such as Percentage and trend analysis, Cluster analysis, Karl Pearson's Co-efficient, Chi Square and t-paired comparison test have been applied for comparison. It is concluded that NPA in public sector banks are higher when compared to private sector banks. Public sector banks are in the hands of Government, helps to develop our economy providing more loans and advances to Priority sector especially agriculture activities are reasons for high level of NPA.
