Abstract The present study was carried out at three sites namely Nagrota Surian, Jarpal and Badela in Nagrota Surian forest range having natural forests surrounding the Pong Dam Wildlife Sanctuary area. In each site 5 quadrats of 2 × 2 m (4 m2) size were laid down randomly to study the regeneration status of tree species. The study revealed the complete absence of natural regeneration of dominant tree species like Pinus roxburghii and Acacia catechu in natural forests of study sites. However high natural regeneration of associate species like Mallotus philippinensis and Cassia fistula was observed in all sites.
