Online published on 11 June, 2014. Abstract The protection performance of acid extracts of Paisum sativum stem (PSS) and pod (PSP) on the corrosion of mild steel (MS) in 1M Hydrochloric acid (HCl) solutions has been studied by mass loss, electrochemical methods and surface examination by using photomicrographs. The extracts of both stem and pod of the plant had good inhibiting effect on mild steel at even very low concentrations. Potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed that the additives act as mixed inhibitors. Double layer capacitance (Cdl) and charge transfer resistance (Rt) values were derived from Nyquist plots obtained from AC impedance studies.
