Abstract An experiment was conducted to study the effect of graded levels (0, 25, 50, & 75%) of mustard cake in soybean meal based formulated diet (40% protein) fed to Cyprinus carpio communis fry for 6 weeks. The experimental diets were fed to ten fishes in duplicate groups. The average live weight gain and specific growth rate were significantly (p<0.05) higher in fishes fed on diets containing mustard oil cake when compared with soybean meal based diet. The feed cost kg−1 for different diets were Rs.17.68, 16.88, 16.12, 15.30 for diets supplemented with 0, 25, 50 and 75% (w/w) mustard cake, respectively. All the fishes fed different diets survived and showed no behavioural change. The study indicates that mustard cake can be efficiently incorporated in the diet of Cyprinus carpio communis fry as protein supplement without any adverse effect.
