Online published on 13 July, 2023. Abstract Background Millions of people worldwide experience physical distortion because of injury, malignant growth and congenital malformations leading to social, economical and psychological distress. 3D- Printing has played a pivotal role in prosthetic rehabilitation of such patients with enhanced acceptability and reproducibility of prosthesis. Method A literature review was completed using PubMed and Embase databases, with search phrases including face and maxillofacial prostheses. Patient cases are included to illustrate the use of facial prostheses to reconstruct complex facial defects. Summary The use of digital technology like 3D- Printing with photogrammetry is disrupting the conventional type of prosthetic creation which are laborious and exorbitant. This review addresses the development of new technique to acquire 3D models utilizing photogrammetry by a smartphone device to make it more feasible and cost effective. Conclusion The use of 3D- printing with photogrammetry in the rehabilitation of maxillofacial defect cases marks a new era in maxillofacial prosthetics. It has served the purpose of making it more feasible and improving access to digital clinical solutions for clinical centers that do not have high cost technology allowances in their budget with the close collaboration between software experts and maxillofacial prosthodontists. Above all, patient's expectations of receiving a life-like prosthesis at a low cost is being fulfilled. Top Keywords Photogrammetry, Prosthetic, Rehabilitation. Top |
