Abstract The impact of urbanization, industrialization, agricultural activities on the wetland cause serious and major issues such as shrinkage of wetland area, ecological misbalance etc. To understand and evaluate the threat and severity of wetland area efforts have been made by various institutions, organizations and governmental bodies at the National and International level who proposed provisions for the conservation of wetland areas. The Punjab state of India is well known in the world for its leading or greater contribution in agricultural sectors and larger production of food grains which feeds a large number of population sin the country. Development of agriculture along with industrialization and urbanization are major threats to wetland of Punjab. Except the state, national and internationals steps towards the management and conservation, the wetlands are under severe threats. Some wetlands are being ignored in the policies, acts and conservation plans. The study is to review the gaps of the policy frameworks in the conservation and management of all wetlands in Punjab.
