Online published on 13 July, 2023. Abstract Discontinuity of mandible after resection destroys balance and symmetry which leads to altered mandibular movements and deviation of the residual fragment towards the defective side. A corrective device known as 'Guide Flange Prosthesis’ (GFP) is indicated to limit this clinical manifestation. A guided flange prosthesis is given as an interim prosthesis in the aftermath of a mandibulectomy or postsurgical reconstruction of the defect to allow the patient to carry out his/ her routine functions like mastication and to maintain esthetics to some extent by preventing deviation of the jaw to the affected side. The success of mandibular guidance therapy varies and depends upon the nature of the surgical defect, early initiation of guidance therapy, patient co- operation, and other factors. This case report describes prosthodontic management of a patient who has undergone hemi-mandibulectomy with mandibular guide flange prosthesis. To aid in moving the mandible normally without deviation during functions like speech and mastication. Top Keywords Guide flange, Prosthesis. Top |
