Abstract

Ghor As-Safi is a limited resources agricultural area in Jordan and rely heavily on the use of medicinal plants to treat many diseases. This study aimed to document the medicinal plants, which are sold in the markets in the Ghor As-Safi region, south of Jordan. Data were collected through oral interviews with shop owners. Information was collected and documented, including the local name of the plant, parts used, its uses, and methods of preparation. The results showed that there are a total of 35 plant species belonging to 23 families commonly used by the villagers in the Ghor As-Safi area for medicinal purposes. The results support the need to encourage the cultivation of these medicinal plants species in the Ghor As-Safi region as well as other areas of Jordan to develop measures to ensure the sustainability of these plants.
