Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine and identify the effective factors and barriers on establishment of telemedicine in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. This study is quantitative-qualitative which is performed on descriptive-sectional basis in Zahedan hospitals in 2012. The findings show that only 10 percent of the analyzed persons were aware of telemedicine technology which demonstrates physicians and video conferencing network were the most important sources for the implementation of telemedicine. The Internet network and the communication lines were most important infrastructure (66%) for the telemedicine implementation and nonparticipation of the private sector in the telemedicine implementation in hospital (81%) and cultural factors were considered as the most important barriers to implementation of this technology. Establishment of a telemedicine consultation network can increase access to community health services and decrease health care costs. Therefore, increasing the employees’ awareness and establishment of telemedicine network is recommended to hospital.
