Obituary

Dr. Z. Ahmad, Fellow of the Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists, Ex-Senior Wheat Breeder and Emeritus Scientist left for heavenly abode on April 18, 2007. Dr. Ahmad was born on October 4, 1942. He was appointed as Wheat Breeder at C. S. Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur after doing Ph.D in Genetics from I.A.R.I., New Delhi in 1970. He worked as Team Leader/Wheat Breeder at C. S. Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur throughout his life and has been responsible for development, release and notification of 18 wheat varieties. The Society and the University mourns the loss of the distinguished scientist, teacher and a good human being of great calibre and dedication. May his soul rest in peace.
Dr. M. L. Varshney, Fellow of the Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists, Ex-Head, Chemistry Department and Ex-Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Allahabad Agricultural Deemed University, Allahabad left for heavenly abode on January 10,2006. Dr. Varshney was born on October 2, 1938. He joined Allahabad Agricultural Institute, Naini, Allahabad (now Allahabad Agricultural Deemed University) as Lecturer in Chemistry in 1968 after his D.Phil from Allahabad University in 1967 where he continued till his retirement in June 1999. Dr. Varshney served at AADU in various capacities and rose to the position of Dean in 1994. He worked as one of the Editors in the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Agricultural Biochemistry from 1998 to 1991. The Society mourns the loss of a dynamic teacher, scientist and an excellent human being. May his soul rest in peace.
