Abstract The present study was focused on the efficiency of utilizing clearing nut seed (Common name: Clearing nut seed) for adsorption and coagulation processes (Jar test) in the removal of fabric coloring and gold plating effluents. The aim was to assess the potentiality of clearing nut seed as an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution for wastewater treatment. The samples collected from fabric colouring and gold plating units from Coimbatore and Tirupur districts of Tamil Nadu, India, were analyzed based on their physico-chemical characteristics. Batch adsorption and coagulation (Jar test) experiments were performed for the evaluation of the efficacy of the clearing nut seed. Maximum sorption efficiency of 96.5% was observed with a dosage of 3g and agitation time of 30 min (140 rpm). The initial turbidity measured for the collected turbid water (200 mL) was 55 NTU (Nephelometric turbidity units). After treatment with 3g of raw clearing nut seed the turbidity removal capacity increased (61% to 70.5%) after 3h of observation. The results indicated that the clearing nut seeds demonstrated efficiency in the removal of pollutants by adsorption and coagulation process, with remarkable reductions in colour. The study also focused on letting the treated water samples with low concentrations after batch experiments and Jar test, into the lands nearer to the industries for a possibility of reducing the pollution in land and water systems.
