Abstract Understanding the constraints of the livelihood diversification strategy is critical for identifying the challenges of rural development and intervening to improve the livelihood and food security of rural communities. Thus, the current study attempted to identify some of the major constraints to diversification by recording household responses to each constraint and deriving a standard Response Priority Index (RPI) to rank them based on their prevalence. The findings revealed that the major constraints to diversification were lack of marketing facilities, a better farming sector, a lack of road and transportation facilities, and lack of awareness and training. Concerned stakeholders/government institutes should pay close attention to this issue and incorporate those factors and constraints.
